For the first time, Portugal will participate in the EY Corporate Finance Woman of the Year event, a global competition that recognizes talented women currently studying. The chosen finalist to represent our country will be Sofia Geraldo, a Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) student.

To inspire the next generation of exceptional female talent to pursue a successful career in strategy and transaction, in which there is still gender inequality, Ernst & Young (EY) launched EY Corporate Finance Woman of the Year to inspire high potential young women to build an impactful career. Each country organizes a national competition aimed at women currently studying at a university level or equivalent and interested in a future in corporate finance and elects its representative for EY’s global competition.

On January 27, Sofia Geraldo, a Nova SBE Master’s in Finance student, was chosen as Portugal’s grand prize winner, having been elected from seven finalists (out of 59 applicants) to draft innovative and strategic solutions and represent Portugal in EY’s global competition, which will take place in April. When asked about this recognition, Sofia stated, “By taking part in this competition, I got to interact with other talented women looking to build impactful careers and a team of dedicated professionals that guided us throughout the several challenges. The Global Competition will be an opportunity to represent Portugal and work with global talent to design solutions that help companies create value and grow sustainably. I hope my experience can inspire other future professionals to embrace this opportunity and follow a career in corporate finance.”

Aside from this opportunity, Sofia will also join the New Eyers Program, a program with paid internships seeking to recruit young women who demonstrate a high ability to solve complex corporate finance challenges.
