Moving the public-policy needle in the right direction

The Nova SBE Public Policy Institute is committed to fostering rigorous research in public policy, particularly research with real-world impact, moving the public policy needle in the right direction. Currently, the institute’s research priorities are centered on the following public policy issues:

  • Taxation (a research lab funded by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation)
  • Productivity (a research lab funded by the Haddad Foundation)
  • Housing
  • Immigration


Notwithstanding the special focus on the above research areas, generally speaking Nova SBE Public Policy Institute INSTITUTE is interested in all matters related to public policy. Additional specific research topics will be added in the future.

PhD graduates, or soon-to-be PhD graduates, can apply to open postdoc positions. We expect to create more positions in the future. Refer to this page and our LinkedIn page for announcements regarding openings. Master’s students and recent graduates willing to work as research assistants in specific on-going projects should send their expression of interest to public.policy.institute@novasbe.pt.

The Nova SBE Public Policy Institute co-sponsors seminars organized by various research units at Nova SBE. Occasionally, the institute convenes one-day workshops on specific public policy issues. Check the events section of our webpage as well as our LinkedIn page.

Research Labs and research initiatives

Researchers at the Nova SBE Public Policy Institute work on a variety of public policy issues. In some cases, a research effort takes the form of a research lab. Current topics include:
- Public finance (a research lab funded by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation)
- Productivity (a research lab funded by the Haddad Foundation)
- Housing
- Immigration
