Research Unit

The ERA Chair in Social Innovation aims to address the complexity of today's societal grand challenges and the transformative power of innovative ideas, prompting Social Innovation as an urgent call on a global level, from both practice and research. We expect this project to impact the Social Innovation Ecosystem and be a valuable contribution to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. 

The ERA Chair in Inequalities arises from the need to advance research on inequalities, transfer knowledge to society, and contribute to well-informed, science-based public policies. It aims to position Nova SBE as an international reference in addressing inequalities’ drivers and effects through research, education, and community engagement while contributing to increased competitiveness in R&D&I in Portugal.

This chair focuses on research and training in the field of Finance, with emphasis on ESG topics, including research on the impact of sustainable investment on reducing pollution. It revolves around the efficient allocation of resources, and addressing pollution and sustainability effectively is a monumental challenge within this context. Integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into financial decision-making processes can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable allocation of resources.

The BPI | Fundação “la Caixa” Chair in Responsible Finance aims to develop research and education on the important role that finance plays in societal progress and how a competitive and inclusive financial system can contribute to economic development.

This chair supports the emergent study of a new social and organizational model as a consequence of confluent forces in technology, demography, organization, and leadership. These forces challenge traditional management practices and stimulate the creation of new models of social and business organization, the outlines of which are still to be defined.

The Cascais Chair, under the leadership of Professor Pedro Oliveira, is dedicated to advancing the fields of Operations, Technology, and Innovation in Portugal and Europe. The Chair aims to foster societal impact through pioneering research in areas such as user-driven innovation and entrepreneurship, Patient Innovation, artificial intelligence in innovation and operations, and technology strategy. Additionally, it aims to equip organizations to navigate complex challenges, embrace change, and build resilient forward-looking strategies. The Cascais Chair will elevate the visibility and prestige of Cascais— home to Nova SBE—as a thriving hub for knowledge, innovation, and technology. It aligns seamlessly with the region's strategic objectives of promoting cultural and economic development, reinforcing Cascais' position as a center for forward-thinking research and societal progress.

The BPI | Fundação “la Caixa” Chair in Health Economics aims to develop research to analyze new trends and challenges in the health sector through impact measurement, studies, and analyses on subjects such as Access to Healthcare Services, Human Resources, and Ageing Population.

This chair aims to develop three main pillars: Research, Teaching, and Transmission of Knowledge in entrepreneurship to society. It wants also to train, prepare, and equip all students with the necessary tools to become better entrepreneurs, building a dynamic community together with academics, start-ups, partners, and society. 

The Chair aims to promote reputation for research in the field of Tourism & Hospitality in Portugal and generate cutting-edge knowledge that is industry-relevant and impactful. It will attract postgraduate and postdoctoral students from around the world to experience prominent research experience on these subjects and position Nova SBE as an innovative leader in teaching and research.
