Nova SBE’s Initiatives for Peace and Togetherness
Society | 11 March 2022 Nova SBE’s Initiatives for Peace and Togetherness

As a school with a role to play and following up on the shocking events in Ukraine regarding the Russian invasion, Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is reinforcing its message for peace and togetherness by putting together two charitable donations and a group of initiatives to help people in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

To support all Ukrainians in need and students and staff from the region, Nova SBE is launching aid initiatives to respond to the impossible suffering this folly is causing and contribute to an open, sustainable, and more inclusive world.

Alongside the Nova SBE Students’ Union, the school has put together a charitable relief initiative for clothing and supermarket products as well as supporting donation funds to well-known charitable organizations so that the Nova SBE community and anyone willing to help has more than one option to do something for the people caught up in the conflict.

To centralize and coordinate all goods, the Nova SBE Students’ Union set up two drop-off donation points – the Welcome Desk and the Nova SBE Students’ Union headquarters, at the entrance of the KMPG Gallery, both at the Carcavelos Campus – where anyone can leave clothing and shoes, toiletries, blankets, sleeping bags, bandages, nappies, and baby wipes, and sanitary products.

Anyone willing to make monetary donations can do so with the MBWay platform through the “Juntos Vamos Ajudar a Ucrânia” (Together Let’s Help Ukraine) movement that was created. If you’re an international citizen who doesn’t have the app or a valid credit card that can be associated, you can donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross – Ukraine Crisis with Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal options.

Aside from these emergency funding initiatives, Nova SBE is also putting together and supporting all sorts of resources – talks, events, volunteering activities, and is developing support and advice tools (academic and non-academic) to help understand the current situation. Please make sure you visit this website’s dedicated page for the events and resources the school is organizing and putting together to offer support and practical information.

The current situation may be distressing, particularly to those with family and friends in Ukraine and Russia, so if you need support and advice, please get in touch with the Nova SBE Role to Play team (via roletoplay@novasbe.pt).

As the world continues to change, Nova SBE will continue to adapt to its multiple challenges. And as the challenges continue, we will continue to offer a space where ideas and ideals can flourish safely and freely.
