Since February, Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is an official member of the Portuguese Plastics Pact, an initiative that unites more than 35 entities and 25 companies for a common purpose – eradicate the existing plastic in Portuguese seas, beaches, and forests.
Nova SBE became a founding member of the Portuguese Plastics Pact, attaining yet another critical milestone within the scope of its sustainability project. This a collaborative platform where the Portuguese government, different agents from the plastics value chain, companies, associations, academia, and governmental entities come together.
Signed at EDP’s headquarters, this pact led by Smart Waste Portugal alongside the Ministry for the Environment and Climate Action, the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition, and the Ministry of Sea, is part of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. It is also important to note that, in July 2019, Nova SBE became the second Portuguese school, the second on the Financial Times ranking, and one of the few organizations with a pilot project for a mandatory container deposit scheme, to pledge its commitment to this global initiative.
By signing this pact, Nova SBE and the remaining involved entities pledge to carry out several actions on behalf of a new plastics economy. Among these are measures such as to guarantee that 100% of plastic containers are reusable, recyclable, or compostable; incorporate, on average, 30% of recycled plastics in new plastic packaging, promote awareness and educational activities for (current and future) consumers for circular usage of plastic, among others, until 2025.
This action is just one aspect of Nova SBE’s sustainability efforts, which have been growing in projects and measures in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, and with European and national campaigns towards a circular economy.
