According to the study The state of Portuguese research in economics: 20 years after, by Paulo Guimarães and Mariana Barbosa and published in Portuguese Economic Journal, Miguel Ferreira is the Portuguese researcher with most citations in the Economics field over the last 20 years (2001-2019). Nova SBE is the school with more researchers included in the top 30 with Pedro Santa Clara, Pedro Portugal and José Tavares also present in this ranking.

Miguel Ferreira is also among the 100 most prolific authors (ranked #62) in top four finance journals of all time in the world, according to the article “Conservatism and Representativeness Heuristic in Peer Reviews: Evidence from the Finance Literature 1946-2020” by Kee H. Chung (Buffalo School of Management) and Choonsik Lee (University of Rhode Island College of Business).
