João Santos joined Nova School of Business and Economics as a Visiting Professor in September 2011.

João Santos currently serves as Senior Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Prior to joining the bank in 2000; he was an Economist at the Bank for International Settlements and previously; an Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

His research interests include financial systems design; banking; banking regulation and corporate finance. His articles have been published in various academic journals including the Journal of Finance; Review of Financial Studies; Journal of Financial Economics; Journal of Monetary Economics; Journal of Accounting and Economics; Journal of Banking and Finance; European Economic Review; Journal of Financial Intermediation; Journal of Money Credit and Banking; and in various Federal Reserve publications. João Santos is a Fellow of the Wharton Financial Institutions Center since 2003; and a Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Money; Credit and Banking; Journal of Financial Intermediation; Journal of Financial Economic Policy and of the Journal of Financial Services Research. He has also participated in numerous scientific and program committees.
