Proving, once again, that Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is so much more than a school and that its community is driven by the desire to be better and continuously improve, the Nova SBE Rowing Student Club become once more the national coastal rowing champion, this time in C4x senior (men) and C2x masters (women).

The club participated in the Portuguese Championship of Coastal Rowing, which took place during the Summer, had four rounds, and included five competitions in total in Figueira da Foz, Oeiras, Vila Praia de Âncora-Caminha, and Barreiro.

After an interrupted year due to the current pandemic, last September 4, the Nova SBE Rowing Club became national champions in two boat categories, with an emphasis on the C4X senior (men) with a team entirely composed of members of the Nova SBE community, namely Robbie Hill (PhD in Economics), Zygimantas Tubis (Bachelor’s in Economics), Nuno Anta (Nova SBE alumnus), and Pedro Vicente (Professor). Furthermore, Tomás Barreto (Master’s in Management and the Student Representative of the Club) placed third in C1X senior (men), and previously placed second in M2x at the National University Championships, representing NOVA University Lisbon. “Besides being immensely proud of the remarkable results that we achieved as a Team, I am extremely grateful for being part of this outstanding and diverse group of people that composes the Nova SBE Rowing Student Club. I sincerely believe that being part of the Nova SBE Rowing Student Club has been an enriching experience, considering that we are a “Startup” in the competitive rowing environment - it demands much more than rowing fast to the finish line, but in the end, it provides much more than medals”.

Due to these stellar results, the Nova SBE Rowing Student Club thus ranks as the number two on the national coastal rowing ranking. This is a fantastic feat, given that the club was only created when the school moved from Campolide to Carcavelos at the beginning of the 2018/19 academic year, and it’s only the club’s second year competing in the national costal rowing circuit.

The Nova SBE Rowing Student Club is dedicated to coastal rowing, taking advantage of the optimal conditions of the Oeiras-Carcavelos coast. It was launched in partnership with the Portuguese Rowing Federation (Federação Portuguesa de Remo – FPR) and Oeiras Marina and is run in collaboration with the Nova SBE Students’ Union but is open to the entire community (students, staff, Alumni, and faculty).
