Nova SBE study: Portuguese less confident in the vaccine against COVID-19
Research | 04 December 2020 Nova SBE study: Portuguese less confident in the vaccine against COVID-19

The Portuguese are less confident in the national and government news regarding the pandemic, as well as getting vaccinated and adhering to protection measures against COVID-19. Those are conclusions of the third wave of the European survey where Nova SBE participates together with researchers from the University Hamburg, Rotterdam Erasmus University and Bocconi University. After the online questionnaires in April and June, the third survey was conducted in September. It involved seven thousand Europeans, of which one thousand were Portuguese, and revealed a reduction of the confidence in the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine (54%). The percentage of nationals willing to vaccinate against COVID-19 decreased from 75% in June to 63% in September. 12 % of respondents answered they will not get vaccinated, and 25% said not being sure. The reasons for the decrease are not considering the vaccine safe, fear of side effects and, with little weight, not considering the disease important and convictions, such as letting nature take its course, using natural remedies and religious reasons.
