They were joined in the onliine session by Emmanuel Fahri (Harvard University) and David Baqqaee (UCLA) who presented "Supply and Demand in Disaggregated Keynesian Economies with an Application to the Covid-19 Crisis" and Veronica Guerrieri (Chicago University), Guido Lorenzoni (Northwestern University), Ludwig Straub (Harvard University) and Iván Werning (MIT) who presented "Macroeconomic Implications of COVID-19: Can Negative Supply Shocks Cause Demand Shortages?". The presentations were followed by discussions from Jesús Fernandez-Villaverde (U Pennsylvania), Jennifer La'o (Columbia U) and Mark Bils (U Rochester). The NBER Summer Institute is a three-week gathering of applied economists that takes place in Cambridge, Massachusetts during July each year. It typically includes a number of relatively informal meetings that bring together researchers working on a narrowly-focused topic. Admittance is highly competitive and typically granted to leading economists in their respective fields. This year, only Nova SBE (Pedro Brinca and João Duarte) and ISEG (Paulo Bastos) were represented amongst all portuguese research institutions in any of the meetings, which cover all areas of the economics profession.
