Marco Fernandes is currently Executive Board Member of ANACOM – National Communications Authority. He is also a guest professor at NOVA SBE (part-time), coordinating a Field Lab on Entrepreneurial Finance.

Between 2021 and 2024 he was CEO/Executive President of GARVAL and Executive Board Member of LISGARANTE, both Mutual Guarantee Societies, SA.

In the previous 6 years, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors/CEO of PME INVESTIMENTOS, SA (a financial company integrated into B.P. Fomento in 2020), Chairman of the Board of Directors/CEO of PORTUGAL VENTURES, SCR and Member of its General and Supervisory Board, having managed, during these six years, Equity vehicles, such as Funds of Funds, Technological Co-investment Funds, Social Innovation/Impact Co-investment Funds and also several VC/PE Funds and managed, in the Debt/Financial Guarantees area, more than 5,000 million euros of corporate credit lines with public guarantees.

Until 2015, he was Executive Director at DNA Cascais – Entrepreneurship Agency, where he promoted an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, and before that management consultant for public and private organizations, in Portugal and CPLP countries, having started his professional life at Aicep and CGD.
