Cátia Batista é Professora Catedrática de Economia na Nova School of Business and Economics, onde é também Fundadora e Diretora Científica do centro de investigação NOVAFRICA. Cátia tem um doutoramento em Economia pela Universidade de Chicago. Tem interesses de investigação relacionados com a migração internacional e fluxos de remessas, inclusão financeira, empreendedorismo, adopção de tecnologia, educação e avaliação de políticas. Tem realizado trabalho incluindo experiências aleatórias e de laboratório no terreno em países como Cabo Verde, Gâmbia, Irlanda, Quénia, Portugal, Moçambique e São Tomé e Príncipe. Catia já ensinou anteriormente na Universidade de Chicago, Universidade de Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, e Universidade de Notre Dame. Actualmente é Investigadora Associada nos centros de investigação CReAM (Londres, Reino Unido), IZA (Bona, Alemanha) e JPAL Europe (Paris, França). Anteriormente, Cátia trabalhou no Fundo Monetário Internacional e na Universidade Católica Portuguesa, e foi consultora para o Banco Mundial e o Centro Internacional de Crescimento.
