Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is made of a community of global citizens proving their potential to grow, and proof of that is the extraordinary results that students Kim Wiedmann, Francisca Mesquita, Rúben Tavares, Mariana Maria Gomes Afonso, and Ana Rita Amélio Fernandes reached in sports.

Growing boldly means believing that there is always space to do and be better, and that’s exactly what Nova SBE students Kim Wiedmann, Francisca Mesquita, Rúben Tavares, Mariana Maria Gomes Afonso, and Ana Rita Amélio Fernandes did when they reached unprecedented results in the sports they practice.

German student Kim Wiedmann practices kickboxing and decided to participate in the WKU World Championships in Cardiff, conquering two gold medals – one in K1 and another in full-contact kickboxing – in her first participation ever in an international competition.

Student Francisca Mesquita, on the other hand, is a swimmer and was elected “Athlete of the Year” in Federação Académica do Desporto Universitário’s (FADU) gala, which awards all student-athletes and all whose university sports feats and accolades stand out.

Rúben Tavares, a Sporting Clube de Portugal gymnast, is one of the main reasons that Portugal has achieved remarkable results in individual trampoline, given that he conquered a gold medal in the men’s trampoline team segment, in the FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championship, in Sofia.

Students Mariana Maria Gomes Afonso and Ana Rita Amélio Fernandes won for the third time in a row the Badminton University National Championship, having thus also secured a place in the European Championship, which will take place in the Summer.

As a community dedicated to the development of talent and knowledge that impacts the world, Nova SBE proudly celebrated the sports merit of Kim Wiedmann, Francisca Mesquita, Rúben Tavares, Mariana Maria Gomes Afonso, and Ana Rita Amélio Fernandes and how willing they are to take their name beyond. Congratulations!
