Research | 29 June 2018 National Science Summit 2018 – Science and Technology is coming to Lisbon

The latest edition of the National Science Summit, where renowned Portuguese researchers meet to discuss the ultimate research challenges, will finally take place in Lisbon from July 2nd to July 4th.

The National Science Summit, also known as Ciência 2018, is an annual meeting of Portuguese researchers that aims to promote the discussion of the main topics and challenges of the scientific agenda.

The summit’s main goal is to stimulate the participation and the interaction between researchers, the business sector, and the general public. This year’s edition follows the guidelines of the United Nations agenda for 2030, which is based on 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS) and is therefore organized around sessions that inspire all participants to debate the design of the future 9th European Framework Program for Research and Innovation 2021-2028. The program will also foster various scheduled activities that will promote open discussions on strategic challenges related to the goals of the ODS and science and innovation in Portugal. There will be science communication workshops, presentations on the most recent research advances in Portugal, among other topics and activities. This year’s edition will have South Africa as the guest country.
Nova School of Business & Economics will also be a part of this unique research event. Professors Francisco Queiró and Emanuel Gomes, as well as researcher Antonieta Cunha e Sá, will be speakers and make their contribution to the most pressing scientific challenges.

The National Science Summit 2018 is promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology in collaboration with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture – Ciência Viva, and the Parliamentary Commission of Education and Science with the institutional support of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
