The Carcavelos Campus of Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE), which was inaugurated on September 29, 2018, is celebrating its third anniversary, and where once laid bricks and concrete is now a campus that strives every day to be the home to a community that dares to look forward, expand the horizon, and impact the world.
Nova SBE needed a new space to match its inner persona and business aspirations. A place that could accommodate the academic growth that it fosters, its collaborative teaching, and its Nova Way of Life – continuously made possible by its community of global citizens. Carcavelos turned out to be that place – safe, welcoming, and exciting.
Having outgrown Campolide, on September 29, 2018, Nova SBE inaugurated its brand new campus in Carcavelos. It was designed by António Barreiros Ferreira and Vítor Carvalho Araújo (architects) to answer the desire of maximizing interaction among students, faculty, researchers, and partners. In fact, in April 2019, it even won the award for Best Real Estate Project of the Year and Best Collective Equipment at the 21st edition of the Real Estate National Awards.
Since then, new chapters of its story have been written, and now the school is celebrating the Carcavelos Campus' third anniversary on October 29, 2021. To celebrate this date, the school will welcome several renowned guests, among which will be Miguel Pinto Luz, President of the Alfredo de Sousa Foundation, João Sàágua, Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, Manuel Heitor, the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, responsible for the COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force, and Alexandra Palt, L'Oréal's Executive Vice President
This small celebratory ceremony, which will take place from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm, will include the inauguration of the Nuno Fernandes Thomaz Bridge. The inauguration will be an honorific moment in memory of the late President of the Board of Directors of the Alfredo de Sousa Foundation and his dedication to supporting Nova SBE in becoming one of the best business schools in the world.
Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo and Alexandra Palt will sit down for two dynamic and crucial talks on Leadership and Sustainability with Nova SBE Professors Nadim Habib and Pedro Oliveira. Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo is a Portuguese Navy officer who served as a Commander of the Portuguese Fleet and as Commander of the European Maritime Force. He is widely known for being the coordinator of the Portuguese COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force, and due to his exceptional leadership skills, he will sit down with Professor Nadim Habib to discuss "A Cultura Portuguesa de Liderança em tempos de Crise" ["The Portuguese Culture of Leadership in Times of Crisis"].
The second important moment of the day will be a talk with Alexandra Palt, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of the L'Oréal Group. Having worked at organizations specializing in CSR, diversity, change management, and sustainability, she joined L'Oréal as Chief Sustainability Officer, launching "Sharing Beauty With All," L'Oréal's sustainability program, which addresses the company's impact across its value chain. She has become instrumental to the launch of the Women4Climate initiative since its early beginning. She will sit down with Professor Pedro Oliveira to talk about "The Path to a Sustainable Corporate Future and the Role of Business Schools. "
Once again, while overlooking the ocean, the school will celebrate the campus' third anniversary. To the generation of changemakers who made it possible and to the future leaders who will be the change we want to see in the world, thank you.
