Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Next – a company specialized in decentralized self-consumption energy solutions – will develop an expansion of Nova SBE’s current solar power unit in Carcavelos, increasing its capacity by approximately 679 kWp, from the current 249 kWp to a total of 928.32 kWp. This expansion will be carried out through the installation of 1,224 photovoltaic panels on the university campus rooftop.
Taking into account the school’s energy load profile and aiming to optimize solar energy production during daylight hours, a battery storage system will also be implemented. This system will store the energy generated during the day for use at night, during periods of low solar production, or when electricity prices are higher.
In total, 50 batteries will be installed, each with a capacity of 4.2 kWh, resulting in a total storage capacity of 210 kWh.
According to João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt, “This project clearly showcases the potential of solar energy across all sectors, including education. This solution, which combines solar energy production with a battery storage system, addresses the lack of nighttime production and improves the efficiency of energy use throughout the day.”
Pedro Oliveira, Dean of Nova SBE, added, “Nova SBE is deeply committed to accelerating the energy transition as part of our broader sustainability mission. As a leading international educational institution, we are fully aligned with the goals of decarbonization. This new solution not only increases our photovoltaic capacity but also allows us to store excess energy for later use, accelerating our commitment.”
