On December 24th, VoxEu – one of the most prestigious research blogs, updated by researchers based in several European universities who collaborate in research and its dissemination – published an article written by two Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) professors.
The article Newcomer CEOs: Performing in times of crisis was written by José Tavares (professor at Nova SBE and research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research), João Amador (also a professor at Nova SBE and head of the fiscal policies and structural studies division at the economics and research department of Banco de Portugal), and Sharmin Sazedj (current Ph.D. student and economist at Banco de Portugal), and was published on December 24th having registered over 6000 reads and innumerous shares.
Invoking empiric methods, the authors explore the impact that the seniority of a CEO in an organization has on their performance and the difference of said impact in normal times versus in times of crises. The article also analyses the impact of new CEOs and their productivity and finds determinant drivers for their success.
