The Estoril Conferences will bring together, on September 1 and 2, at Nova SBE's Carcavelos Campus, numerous world leaders to share experiences and engage in a debate around the theme "Re-Humanize Our World". The purpose of the Estoril Conferences is to encourage thinking and action, both in the present and the future, with more educated and enlightened consciences. The event will gather dozens of international speakers and experts from various areas.

Among the recent confirmations are Maya Gabeira (2020 Guinness Record holder for the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman), Fola David (Doctor and hyper-realism artist), Eldar Shafir (Psychologist and Professor of Behavioural Sciences at Princeton University), and Luís Cabral (Paganelli-Bull Professor of Economics at NYU Stern School of Business). These speakers will contribute to the conference based on the following pillars: Planet, Peace, Policies, People and Health.

Maya Gabeira, one of the most influential female professional surfers from Brazil, will be part of the panel dedicated to the theme PLANET. She will share her experiences as an athlete, as well as her passions and initiatives in protection and conservation of the oceans. In addition to her athletic achievements, Gabeira actively participates in initiatives to combat plastic pollution in the oceans and is committed to raising awareness of the respect and care for the planet's natural resources. She earned her Guinness World Record in Portugal, specifically in Nazaré.  Other confirmed speakers for the PLANET theme include the already announced international speakers Sir Richard Roberts (Nobel in Medicine 1993), Sameera Chukkapalli (Obama Foundation), Erden Eruç (first person to complete a solo circumnavigation of Earth powered exclusively by human motive force) and João de Macedo (giant wave surfer and co-founder of the Save The Waves Coalition).

Fola David, a dermatologist-artist from Nigeria who combines his two passions, health, and creativity, will take part in the PEOPLE and HEALTH panel. Regarded as one of the most prestigious speed paint artists in Nigeria, through his foundation, the Fola David Care Foundation. He also collaborates with communities of children to develop creative projects.

Eldar Shafir, a psychologist, and Professor of Behavioural Sciences at Princeton University will participate in the Estoril Conferences under the theme PEOPLE and HEALTH. He is the author of multiple publications and an excellent communicator. Shafir, who previously served on Barack Obama's advisory council on financial capability, will discuss how scarcity affects cognitive abilities, a theme explored in his book "Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much!"

These speakers will be joined by nine other leading international experts to deepen and reflect on the theme of PEOPLE and HEALTH: Karim R. Lakhani, a professor specializing in technology management, innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. Lakhani (Dorothy & Michael Hintze Professor at Harvard Business School, USA); Anindya Ghose (Heinz Riehl Chair Professor, NYU Ster, India) named one of the 40 best professors under 40; Jo Røislien (Professor of Medical Statistics at the University of Stavanger, Communicator and TV Performer, Norway); Klara Jelinkova (Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Harvard University, Czech Republic); Nelly Enwerem-Bromsom (Director Resource at Women in Global Health, Nigeria); Ricardo Gil da Costa (Chief Executive Office at Neuroverse, Portugal), Zohray Talib (Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Policy at George Wash, USA) and the previously announced Aaron Ciechanover (Nobel in Chemistry 2004) and Alexandra Palt (L'Oreal Foundation).

Luís Cabral, a faculty member at NYU Stern School of Business since 2000, represents Portugal on the panel discussing POLICY. He will share his experiences and research on innovation, platforms, and reputation in the media and entertainment industries. Cabral is internationally known for his book "Introduction to Industrial Organization." Luís Cabral will be joined by Danilo Turk (President of Club de Madrid and Former President of Slovenia) and Cristina Duarte (Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General for Africa, Cape Verde).

Gerard Ryle, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2017, will also be present at the Estoril Conferences to engage in a debate and reflection on the theme of PEACE.

Participate in the event

The 8th edition of the Estoril Conferences will take place on September 1 and 2, 2023 at Nova SBE’s Carcavelos Campus. The event is free, however, registration is mandatory with a limited number of seats. The Estoril Conference will be broadcast live through an open and free digital platform to allow access to participants from all over the world, also through mandatory registration.
