Professor Pedro Santa Clara, holder of the Millennium BCP Chair in Finance at Nova SBE since 2007, was awarded the Personality of the Year prize by Human Resources Portugal Magazine.

The researcher received the distinction for the project 42Lisboa, a free programming school created during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ricardo Florêncio, CEO of the Multipublicações group, to which Human Resources Portugal belongs, explained the award: "In a year marked by a great whirlwind in the world of People Management, training - the updating of knowledge, reskilling and upskilling - was one of the topics that were given greater attention, greater care, showing that it is an urgent need, a bet of capital importance. This year we decided to give this Personality of the Year Award to someone who has developed a different, innovative project which has been a great success. It has already been written that his vision of education has a social vocation, and that is why he created a free programming school in the middle of the pandemic. But it is a school with no classes, timetables, or teachers. You learn by doing and developing projects among peers. He is a full professor and also a researcher, but he defines himself as a social entrepreneur".

In addition to the Millennium BCP Chair in Finance at Nova SBE, which he has held since 2007, Pedro Santa was a Professor of Finance at the Anderson School of Management at UCLA from 1996 to 2009. He received a PhD in Management from INSEAD, France, and is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a researcher at the Center for Economic Policy Research, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and Management Science.

Pedro Santa Clara's research interests focus on theoretical models of asset pricing and the development of econometric methods to estimate them. His work centers on quantitative portfolio management, option pricing, risk management, currency and fixed-income markets, and financial econometrics.

Pedro Santa Clara also directed the Nova SBE Carcavelos Campus project and its funding campaign, being responsible for raising around 50 million euros.
