Carina Silva explained to Ambiente Magazine the Assebio project – Assessment of Ecosystem Services, Biodiversity, and Well-Being in Portugal – which aims to analyze changes in land occupation and use and how these changes impact the provision of ecosystem services. This impact is then translated into an estimated monetary value using economic valuation methods. “Most ecosystem services are public goods that do not pass through the market and, therefore, there is no price that reflects the value of these services. However, not having a price and not having a market, does not mean that they have no value”, said the researcher.
