The document analyzes situations of monetary poverty and other dimensions such as material deprivation, housing conditions and access to education and health, and discusses the relationship between poverty and the employment situation or the level of education. Indicators of persistence of poverty, regional differences, inequality in income distribution and the impact of social transfers on poverty alleviation are also presented. It also dedicates a chapter to children and another to the elderly, two particularly vulnerable groups. Finally, the report “Portugal Social Balance, 2021” updates the impact of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on health, education, the labor market, savings, consumption and indebtedness, combining various sources of available data.
