Rui Pedro Mota is a Doctor in Environmental Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, with a Masters’ degree in Economics from Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão. The PhD title was obtained in 2011 with the thesis ”Modeling and measuring sustainability in dynamic economies”. Since 2012, Rui is a post-doc researcher at Nova School of Business and Economics, where he also teaches. His research interests are environmental economics focusing on: the construction of sustainability indicators by extending the system of national accounts to include environmental assets and services; and the management of ecosystem services, namely fisheries. He has participated in several projects in these inter disciplinary areas, working mainly in teams of biologists and economists. In this context, he worked in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment for Portugal, and most recently in the project “The economic valuation and governance of marine and coastal ecosystem services”. This last project is part of the Gulbenkian Oceans Initiative, where Rui worked, in collaboration with the Portuguese Fishery Management Authority, in the integration of economics in the policy design for fisheries.
