Paulo Soares de Pinho joined Nova School of Business and Economics in 1985 as Teaching Assistant, moving to Assistant Professor in 1994. Currently he is Associate Professor. He teaches courses in banking, corporate finance, private equity, entrepreneurial finance and venture capital. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Luxembourg Business Academy of the University of Luxembourg and at Cass Business School, London.  

At Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Paulo Soares de Pinho has had numerous assignments, including serving as apro-rector in charge of Entrepreneurship and Fund Raising (since 2008),co-director of the Executive Masters Program in Law and Management, scientific director of the executive Post-Graduate Program in Finance and of the executive Post-Graduate Program in Law and Management, director of the full-time MBA Program and executive director of the Executive Education Training Centre.

Paulo Soares de Pinho has extensive practical experience in private equity, currently serving on the board of directors of Sonae Capital SGPS and of Change Partners. He is also president of the general council of the Fundo de Sindicação de Capital de Risco PME-IAPMEI(a venture capital syndication fund), member of the advisory and strategic board of Fast Change Venture Capital Fund and representative director for Portugal of Venture Valuation.

Previously, Paulo Soares de Pinho was executive director and board member of REN Redes Eléctricas Nacionais, where he was responsible for the IPO preparation, and was Chairman of the Audit Board at Novabase. He has advised various companies in Portugal and abroad including the CBM Banking Consulting Group, New Next Moves Consultants and Profit Technologies, among others. He also worked as a consultant to several financial and energy companies.

Paulo Soares de Pinho is currently a member of the executive committee of the European Association of University Teachers on Banking and Finance and was a former member of the advisory board of the European Capital Markets Institute.

Paulo Soares de Pinho wrote various chapters in books and has been publishing articles in finance and banking, namely in the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Money, Investment and Banking, International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance and in Applied Financial Economics.
