On the occasion of NOVA University Lisbon’s Day, Professor Marta Almeida received an Honorable Mention in the Pedagogical Innovation Prize for her “Gaming in Accounting Teaching” project, which was carried out with the technical and pedagogical support of the Enhanced Learning Office.
The “Gaming in Accounting Teaching” project redefines traditional accounting education by integrating gamification and immersive digital case studies. Aimed at increasing student engagement and improving educational outcomes, the project transformed a paper-based case study into an interactive virtual environment where students collaborate on budgeting in simulated workplace scenarios.
The project promoted a real-life experience of accounting in practice, without actually leaving the classroom, demonstrating significant progress in the area of teaching by bringing theory and practice closer together in accounting education, also materializing one of Nova SBE's main academic traits based on the constant and most realistic possible approximation between theoretical knowledge and its practical applicability.
This project aimed not only to make the teaching process more modern and engaging but also to improve understanding and retention of complex concepts, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and foster collaboration and teamwork.
