Leid Zejnilovic
Leid Zejnilovic
Associate Professor

Leid helps leaders use data and artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly – he designs decision maps for technology adoption, turns learning into business value, and sets transparent rules for algorithm use. His hallmark is converting narrative into results, with clear criteria, metrics, and trade-offs.

At Nova SBE, he currently holds several roles: Associate Dean for AI & Digital Transformation, leading initiatives at the intersection of strategy, technology, and social impact; Academic Co-Director of the Digital Data Design Institute, a collaboration between Nova SBE, Nova Medical School, and Harvard University; and Academic Co-Director of the Open & User Innovation Knowledge Center.

A renowned academic entrepreneur with over 20 years of international experience, Leid co-founded impactful organizations such as the “Data Science for Social Good” foundation and Nova SBE’s knowledge centers – “Open and User Innovation” and “Data, Operations & Technology” – helping build applied data-science capabilities and bridge the gap between business and academia.

Additionally, he helped create Patient Innovation, a digital platform and non-profit that promotes the sharing of innovative solutions developed by patients and caregivers.

Together, these initiatives have become benchmarks in open and technological innovation.

He is also Associate Editor of Data & Policy (Cambridge University Press) in Algorithmic Governance, and an active voice in public debates on AI, data, and organizations, advocating responsible experimentation and critical learning with large language models (LLMs).

In his sessions, participants work on real challenges, prototype solutions, test hypotheses, and define next steps, leaving with grounded decisions, repeatable processes, and AI/data governance calibrated to each organization’s risk and ambition.

Leid notes that “we are entering an extraordinary world of opportunities,” where education becomes more adaptive to improve learning. He believes Nova SBE’s role is to promote structured experimentation, ensuring students, faculty, and corporate partners test and reflect critically.

Leid Zejnilovic holds a double PhD in Technological Change & Entrepreneurship (Carnegie Mellon University and Católica-Lisbon), a master’s degree in engineering and public policy (CMU), a master's degree in Information Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (University of Sarajevo).
