PhD in Economics at Harvard University, specializing in Macroeconomics and Public Economics. He is currently a Professor of Economics at the Nova School of Business and Economics and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. He has taught at various national and international universities. His research has been published in the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Economic Journal, the Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Journal of Public Economics, among other journals, and in volumes published by Harvard University Press, MIT Press, Princeton University Press, and Oxford University Press. Has co-organized with Francesco Caselli and Mário Centeno, ‘After the Crisis Reform, Recovery, and Growth in Europe’, published by Oxford University Press. His work has been commented in Time magazine, the New York Times, Handelsblatt, and La Repubblica, and specialized opinion sites such as Vox.eu and Eurointelligence. He has consulted for governments and different foundations and private organizations.
