Open Call for OceanSchool Program Enrollment: A Unique Opportunity in Blue Growth Education
Notícias | 14 novembro 2023 Open Call for OceanSchool Program Enrollment: A Unique Opportunity in Blue Growth Education

The OceanSchool Project is now accepting applications from Nova SBE and NHH master’s students for a transformative learning experience in Blue Growth. Created through a partnership between Nova SBE, NHH, and IPMA, and funded by EEA Grants, this program offers specialized training in marine and environmental economics with a focus on real-world applications.

The OceanSchool curriculum is an intensive and hands-on blend of coursework and field research designed to bridge the gap between marine sciences and economic policy. Starting with a Winter School at Nova SBE (February 26 - March 1, 2024), students will dive into critical topics like marine coastal ecosystems in developing nations, spatial policy for marine resource management, and the role of Antarctica in global ecosystems. The curriculum also includes courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), equipping students with the skills needed to analyze spatial data for marine management purposes.

In addition to coursework, students will participate in Field Labs, collaborating directly with IPMA researchers on projects relevant to Portuguese and Norwegian public policy. Each module offers ECTS credits, with a maximum of 42 ECTS available, including credits for a thesis project. Successful participation in the Winter and Summer Schools provides exemptions from specific modules in the regular curriculum, creating a streamlined path toward graduation.

The OceanSchool is designed to prepare future leaders in sustainable marine resource management, offering unique networking opportunities with industry and academic experts. The deadline to apply is December 20, 2023. Applicants should submit a motivation letter and CV to Dr. Ughetta Molin Fop at ughetta.molinfop@novasbe.pt, copying Prof. Antonieta Cunha e Sá at mcunhasa@novasbe.pt.
