OceanSchool Project: A Unique Educational Pathway to Sustainable Blue Growth
News | 15 September 2023 OceanSchool Project: A Unique Educational Pathway to Sustainable Blue Growth

The OceanSchool Project is an interdisciplinary blue economy education initiative developed by Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE) and the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), in collaboration with the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA). This program, funded by EEA Grants, offers master’s students a robust curriculum focusing on sustainable ocean practices, including ecosystem services, marine policy, and fisheries economics.

Key components of OceanSchool include hands-on Field Labs, where students work alongside IPMA researchers to tackle policy-relevant topics, integrating research with practical applications in marine and coastal management. The Winter and Summer Schools foster international collaboration, allowing students to gain immersive experiences in both Portugal and Norway. Here, they explore themes like climate resilience, spatial policy for marine environments, and the application of technology in sustainable ocean practices.

In addition to promoting student mobility and international cooperation, OceanSchool aligns with the objectives of national and international marine strategies. It provides a platform for developing actionable research to support public policy, thereby contributing to sustainable blue growth initiatives in Portugal and Norway.
