The TSEE (Transition Studies in Energy and Environment) seminar series will host Meera Mahadevan, Assistant Professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, University of California, San Diego, on October 13.
In her talk, titled “On the Back Burner: Experimental Evidence for Energy Transitions”, Professor Mahadevan will share experimental evidence on the challenges of energy transitions in developing countries.

About the Speaker

Meera Mahadevan is an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego and an affiliate of the CESIfo Research Network, the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA), and the Energy for Growth Hub. She is also an invited researcher at the J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab), participating in multiple international research initiatives.

Her research explores institutional and political barriers shaping energy and environmental outcomes, with a particular focus on developing countries.
Her work highlights how political motives can distort the provision of essential public services such as electricity and water, leading to significant inefficiencies and welfare losses.
More recently, she has conducted randomized field trials in Nepal and India, examining interventions related to smart meters, solar energy adoption, and electric cooking, contributing to more effective and equitable sustainable development policies.
