16th Portuguese National Conference on Health Economics (CNES 16)
News | 22 October 2019 16th Portuguese National Conference on Health Economics (CNES 16)

CNES 16 is the largest health economics event to be held in Portugal every 2 years. As always, NHEM, had a strong presence in the conference with more than 15 quality presentations. And not only that! This year 5 NHEM members (Luís Filipe, Joana Pestana, Judite Gonçalves, Carolina Santos and Eduardo Costa) headed the organizing committee together with the president of APES (Céu Mateus).

The first day of the conference was dedicated to early careers, focusing on three special themes:

- Communication in Science

- Women's careers

- Who can be a health economist

Important conclusions were drawn from the sessions, especially about the importance of communicating science, not only with academia, but especially with the rest of society.

At the end of the day, the Pedro Pita Barros Prize was awarded, honoring the best paper published in health economics for an early career and, of course,  honoring our great Professor and founder of NHEM.

The second day began with a speech by the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, who attended the opening session of the conference to show her support for research on health economics in Portugal. The rest of the day was divided between parallel sessions and a plenary session. highlight to be given tp Erik Schokkaert's speech on health justice and how to measure inequalities.

On the third and final day of the conference, there were several high interest parallel sessions and two plenary sessions. This time  Karen Bloor spoke of health research communication and Manuel Gomes spoke of “Missing Data”.

In short, a happy day for health economists =)
