Pedro Freitas, from the Nova SBE Economics of Education Knowledge Center, interviewed on the application of the funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR, in Portuguese) on the education sector.

In an interview to Jornal Económico, Pedro Freitas answered questions on the historical evolution of the education in Portugal, the investments foreseen for the sector under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and how to eliminate the gap between the Portuguese educational system and the rest of the European Union. The researcher recognizes a positive trajectory in the Portuguese education, although he points out the need to fight the differences between the students with less resources and those most privileged, referring to data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Additionally, he refers the importance of making the most of the funds from the PRR to mitigate the learning losses associated to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, underlining the need to revert the aged and overloaded nature of the national teaching staff.
