In 2025, Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) further strengthened its position as one of Europe’s leading research institutions in the fields of Economics, Management, and Finance. The findings of the Research Report 2025 highlight a year marked by increased competitive funding, international recognition of scientific excellence, and the growing impact of the research conducted at the School.
Among the key highlights is the evaluation of the Nova SBE Research Unit by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia – FCT), which once again received an “Excellent” rating. Nova SBE was the only Portuguese institution in the fields of Economics and Management to achieve the highest possible score (5 out of 5) across all evaluation criteria. This recognition translates into expected funding of €3.6 million for the 2025–2029 period, further strengthening the School’s capacity to conduct world-class research and attract international talent.
2025 Results
In 2025, Nova SBE also secured 22 new research projects, representing more than €5.6 million in new funding from national and international organizations, including the European Commission, FCT, the ”la Caixa” Foundation, MIT, and other leading institutions.
Another milestone of the year was the award of an ERC Advanced Grant to Professor Miguel Ferreira for the project “Finance for All,” making Nova SBE the first and only Portuguese institution to receive funding from the European Research Council through the advanced panel in Economics, Finance, and Management.
Scientific output also maintained a strong trajectory: in 2025, Nova SBE researchers published 122 scientific articles, 35 of which appeared in leading international journals in the fields of Economics, Management, and Finance.
The international dimension of the School’s research also continued to grow. Nova SBE researchers participated in 307 scientific conferences, 262 of which were international, and serve on more than 100 editorial boards of scientific journals.
