Rethinking Early Childhood (REC) is the latest initiative of the Nova SBE Public Policy Institute (NPPI), developed in partnership with EQUALNovaERA. Taking place on July 9 and 10 at Nova SBE’s Carcavelos campus, the workshop will bring together experts from a wide range of fields to reflect on the challenges and opportunities of early childhood development.

Children represent the future of humanity, yet much of the effort to improve their lives has traditionally focused on formal education. However, research increasingly shows that experiences in the earliest years of life – including care, stimulation, and environment – have the greatest influence on long-term outcomes. Despite this, many children are left behind before they even take their first steps.

Rethinking Early Childhood aims to address this gap by focusing on initiatives and public policies that promote equitable opportunities for all children from the very beginning of life.

The workshop’s discussions and findings will be consolidated into a report, to be published later this year, featuring actionable recommendations and concrete public policy proposals.

The afternoon session on July 9 is open to researchers, faculty members, clinicians, public policy professionals, representatives of organizations, students, and anyone interested in early childhood development and education policy.

Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is required.
