Applications for Nova SBE’s PhD Summer School Close on March 31
Research | 17 March 2026 Applications for Nova SBE’s PhD Summer School Close on March 31

Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is accepting applications until March 31 for the PhD Summer School: Development Economics – a credit-bearing summer school designed for PhD students, researchers, and any professionals interested in deepening their knowledge in the field of Development Economics. The Summer School will take place from June 22 to 24, in person, on Nova SBE’s campus in Carcavelos, and will be fully taught in English.

This year’s edition focuses on the practical aspects of designing and analyzing field experiments, a tool increasingly used to evaluate public policies and development interventions. The program will be led by David McKenzie, Lead Economist at the World Bank Group’s Development Research Group, and one of the leading international economists in the field.

During the program, participants will have the opportunity to explore different treatment methods, randomization techniques, and tools, ranging from pre-analysis plans to pre-registered reports. Throughout the Summer School, participants will also analyze one of the main challenges in public policy evaluation: ensuring that studies have sufficient statistical power to detect real impacts.

The initiative is part of a week dedicated to the field of Development Economics at Nova SBE. Prior to the Summer School, two NOVAFRICA events will also take place on Nova SBE’s campus: an exclusive PhD Workshop on the theme of this year’s edition – on June 17 – and the Conference on Economic Development, on June 18 and 19.

Applications are open until March 31
