He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Management Systems, from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2000). He also completed post-graduate courses in Quality Engineering (1987) and Banking Management (1992). He holds a degree in Materials Engineering from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1986). He is an integrated member of the Unit for Research and Development in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI) and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at FCT NOVA, integrating the Department Council. His teaching and research areas are Quality and Operations Engineering, with a special focus on services, and he is the author of books on Quality Management and Applied Statistics. He is a member of the Entrepreneurship Council of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, of the Audit Committee of the Portuguese Association for Quality and, on behalf of the University, is a member of the Advisory Board of a Certification Body.
