The Nova SBE Health Economics & Management Knowledge Center was represented at the EuHEA Conference 2026, held in Rotterdam under the theme “Bridging health economics excellence in research & practice”.
The conference brought together the European health economics community for several days of scientific exchange, with researchers, academics and policymakers discussing current challenges and developments in the field.
Throughout the conference, researchers and members of our wider community contributed to different moments of the programme, including research presentations, session chairing and participation in special sessions.
The contributions covered a broad range of areas in health economics, including pharmaceutical economics and pricing, behavioural health economics, digital health, health systems performance and reform, equity in health and healthcare, prevention, cost-of-illness research, and the role of health economics associations in policymaking.
The centre’s presence at the conference included contributions from Céu Mateus, Francisco Vital Marques, Giovanni Righetti, Gustavo Cordeiro, Pedro Pita Barros, Ana Rita Santos, Carolina Borges da Cunha Santos, Francisco Madeira, Maria Rita Pessoa, Julian Perelman and Francisca Vargas Lopes, reflecting the diversity of research developed within the academic ecosystem connected to the Knowledge Center.
A special highlight from this year’s conference was the election of Céu Mateus as President of the European Health Economics Association for the 2026–2028 term.
Reflecting on this moment, Céu Mateus shared:
It is a great honour to have been elected by my colleagues to preside over the European Health Economics Association (EuHEA) for the 2026–2028 term. I was part of the group of founders of EuHEA, as President of the Portuguese Health Economics Association (APES), but I had never imagined that one day I would lead the association.
EuHEA is a federation of European health economics associations and, at the Rotterdam Conference, more than 900 people working in this field came together, including academics, researchers and policymakers. This is an impressive number and clearly demonstrates the relevance of this area of research in contemporary societies.
I would also like to acknowledge all my colleagues at NHEM who, at different stages of my career, have always supported and encouraged me to go further and do better.
