Judite Sousa – one of the most well-known and respected Portuguese journalists – has created a scholarship in the memory of her son, an alumnus of the Masters in Finance at Nova School of Business and Economics.
The André Sousa Bessa Scholarship is aimed at students taking the Nova SBE Masters in Finance – ranked by the Financial Times among the top 20 in the world – facing financial difficulties.
This scholarship will cover the tuition fees for the masters program, and will therefore enable talented students to explore their potential, thereby boosting their chances of a successful career in the future, considering that they will have access to the best masters in Finance in the country and one of the top 20 in the world.
Being an individual donation, Judite Sousa’s initiative is unprecedented in Portugal. In the words of the journalist: “the Masters in Finance at Nova SBE changed my son’s life and I am sure that he would like very much to help other young students to benefit from a similar opportunity”.

André personified all that a Nova SBE student should be – an intelligent leader, insightful, competitive, but generous, responsible and a hard worker at the same time. He has always showed a will to learn more.
André’s legacy to the school in the shape of this scholarship certainly does not erase the fact that we miss him, but makes us feel honored to have met him.

The constant search for knowledge and the motivation to go further that André always revealed are values that this scholarship stands for and is even more relevant within Nova School of Business and Economics today.

André was one of the most intelligent and determined people I have ever known. He proved this when he decided to take the Masters in Finance at Nova SBE, after having graduated from Law School. He was very confident in his abilities and self-demanding, but has always recognized the merit of his peers.
I’m sure he would be happy to know that his experience at Nova SBE will now bring opportunities for students that otherwise wouldn’t have had the same possibility.
