Off-Campus accommodation: The best areas to stay in Lisbon and commute every day to the campus are close to the Cascais train line, in the southern areas of Lisbon (Cais do Sodré, Santos, Alcântara, and Belém); or more central areas that are close to subway stations that can quickly take you to Cais do Sodré (green line) or Terreiro do Paço (blue line, 10 mins walking from Cais do Sodré train station). You can study the Lisbon subway map to have a clear understanding of all the lines.

Nova SBE has partnered with online accommodation platforms such as Inlife and Uniplaces to have extended offerings in the most convenient areas in Lisbon (close to Cascais train line stations) and in the surroundings of the Campus. You can check the areas you are interested in and corresponding prices.

On-campus accommodation has 122 rooms and will be operated by MILESTONE, an experienced student housing provider – check reservation details.

The Social Welfare Services of Nova University Lisbon will continue to provide subsidized rooms for Nova SBE students in the Campolide and Lumiar residencies.

The Municipality of Cascais has already put in motion the construction of 1000 rooms for students in the surrounding areas of the new campus.

Nova SBE promotes sustainable mobility solutions, which are not only environmentally friendly, but also allow you to take advantage of what Carcavelos (and also Lisbon’s city center) have to offer you with all the means of transportation especially designed for you. However, if you choose to use a car when travelling to the new campus these are the main parking options at the Carcavelos Campus:

  1. There are 3 open fields around the campus where you can park (pink area), with capacity for 970 cars and only 3 to 10 minutes away (walking distance) from campus. Parking here is free of charge during Winter time. In the Summer, parking spaces are charged 2€ for the day.

  2. There are areas surrounding the campus with at least 250 parking spaces (blue area). These areas are duly marked with the Parking symbol. From November to April parking costs a minimum of 0.10€ (15 min) and a maximum of 1.00€ (daily amount). From May to October parking there can cost from a minimum of 0.30€ (15min) to a maximum of 3.20€ (4 hours).

  3. The Carcavelos Train Station is located 20 minutes away from campus and it has a parking lot for 300 cars. Public transport users have access to a reduced fee (15€ per month) to use this parking and the cost for the remaining users is 20€ per month. For occasional usage the parking costs 1€ per day.

  4. Nova SBE will have a parking lot with underground access that lead you directly to the campus building. It has 530 spaces available and tickets are charged to students by the hour. During the Summer tariffs may rise.

Mobility

carcavelos campus mobility

The best way to get to the Carcavelos Campus is by taking the Cascais train line in Cais do Sodré to Carcavelos. The trajectory of the train should be the one as follows:

Nova SBE is currently negotiating prices for a special integrated pass for Nova SBE community that includes: Lisbon: Metro + Bus (Carris) + Cais do Sodré – Carcavelos: Train (CP) + Carcavelos – Nova SBE Campus: MobiCascais (Short-ride Bus, Bike Parking, Bike rental).

When exiting the train, you can either exit at the Oeiras stop and walk to campus – it’s a 15-minute (1km) walk – or you can exit at the Carcavelos stop which it will take you around 20 minutes (1.5km). Nova SBE, together with the Cascais Municipality, has assured the mobility and safety conditions from the Carcavelos Station to the Campus, which is our recommended option.

Nova SBE is negotiating a direct service with dedicated Bus provider (Vimeca), exclusive for the Nova SBE community, from Sete Rios/Praça de Espanha to the Carcavelos Campus. The bus will run several trips to and from Campus during the day, according to need and coordinated with the programs schedules.

Car sharing is also an option. Nova SBE has partnered with Brisa to provide our community with an exclusive group within Via Verde Boleias, a ridesharing application that allows people to schedule rides and share the costs.
