Principles of Mathematics for Economics and Management

by Nova SBE.

Nova SBE has a reputation for and experience in receiving the best students in the country.

We have discovered that a significant number of these come from foreign-system high schools in Portugal (such as Liceu Francês, Escola Alemã de Lisboa, Instituto Espanhol de Lisboa, St. Julian’s School, and St. Dominic’s International School) where the teaching of Mathematics covers topics different from those taught in Portuguese-system schools. As a result, many excellent students who are graduates of these schools struggle with quantitative courses when they come to Nova SBE.

Nova SBE offers a new course designed precisely for such students, beginning in March 2, 2016. Principles of Mathematics for Economics and Management comprises 70 hours of classes – all held on Saturdays – in the quantitative skill areas that students would otherwise not receive.

Benefits

  • Preparation of students from foreign-system schools in Portugal (such as Liceu Francês, Escola Alemã de Lisboa, Instituto Espanhol de Lisboa, St. Julian’s School, and St. Dominic’s International School) for Nova SBE bachelors courses, such as Calculus and Linear Algebra
  • Preparation of students with little quantitative background to apply for the Nova SBE Masters in Management
  • Refresh for students who have not had Math for a few years (namely those wishing to qualify for the “Maiores de 23” exam)
  • English-based learning

Contents

  1. Elementary Algebra
  2. Introduction to Analytic Geometry
  3. Trigonometry and Complex Numbers
  4. Functions of One Variable:
    • Concepts of function, limits and continuity

    • Applications
  5. Statistics and Probability
