Today, Nova SBE’s graduates that are starting their professional careers face – with major probability – the need of interacting with clients, suppliers, and other non-national partners, or even working in a foreign country.
In order to develop the student’s international perspective NOVA established a mandatory internationalization requirement that can be fulfilled in many forms:
- Extended stay in foreign universities under existing exchange programs
- Internships in foreign companies
- Attendance of courses offered by foreign universities
- International content coursework offered at Nova SBE in Lisbon
Perfecting the English Language
Improving students’ skills in the English language is one of the Schools motivations. This is important not only to prepare the students for the courses in the Undergraduate and Masters programs, but also to prepare them to enter the job market in the future.
Every student must take an English assessment test in their first year, which will be used to identify each students needs for improvement.
In an increasingly globalized society, Nova SBE recognizes the importance of strengthening social responsibility among students and their involvement with the community.
NOVA Community - volunteering program
The NOVA Community is a volunteering program that translates the concept of an holistic learning experience comprising the academic, personal and citizenship perspectives.
By combining theoretical learning with practical learning and extracurricular activities the program contributes to the personal development of the student and the active involvement in the civil society.
With the practice of volunteering, the student has the opportunity to put into practice some of the acquired knowledge and develop personal skills in very diverse and enriching projects that include, for example, pedagogical support to students of elementary schools and high schools , collaboration and implementation of ongoing projects in civil society organizations, support in the logistics and planning of associations, financial literacy to the elderly, among others.
Academic and Social Integration
The School is aware that the transition to university is a difficult step, both in academic and social terms.
To support students in this new cycle of their lives, Nova SBE created some programs within the Student Development Office:
PAIAS - Support Program for Academic and Social Integration
Aims to facilitate the integration of new students in academic and social aspects.
At the beginning of the school year, during the NOVA Discovery - the reception event for newcomers - each new student is assigned a tutor, a 2nd or 3rd year student whose mission is to welcome and support the new colleague throughout the school year.
This program aims to settle the university as a space for mutual learning and social, cultural and recreational interaction.
This program aims to smooth the adjustment to the new challenges presented by entering university and find answers that match each students’ circumstances.
The REBOOT program includes a module of Study Methods and Techniques that covers topics such as motivation, self-efficiency, time management, organization of study and teamwork.
Personal and Professional Development
We believe in the importance of personal and professional development of our students. We focus on improving their analytical, communication, negotiation and teamwork capabilities by performing Personal Development and Interpersonal Skills Modules.
NOVA also supports students regarding individual issues that may arise during the undergraduate program, as well as questions regarding their personal decision-making and career, covering topics such as the continuity of studies versus integration in the labor market, supporting students in obtaining summer internships and, if they wish, entering the job market.
